Tour de France film Chasing Legends @ Kino Cinema Hawkhurst

Kino Digital Cinema in Hawkhurst will be screening the Tour de France film Chasing Legends on Saturday 21st May at 4pm as part of our annual film festival. The film is 95 minutes long and a 15 certificate. The ticket price is £9.50 (£8.50 concession). We can also offer a concessionary rate for groups of 6 or more.

Described by The Daily Telegraph as “a superb assault on the senses that captures the 2009 Tour de France”, the film follows the rich history, passion and true grit of the race as seen through the eyes of Mark Cavendish’s Team HTC Columbia and with commentary from some of the sport’s most prolific heros. More information on the film is available at www.chasinglegends.com .

I don't know if you are familiar with Kino, but we have 91 very comfortable seats, a 6.5 metre-wide screen and a great range of refreshments. We also have a secure area at the back of the cinema should anyone wish to leave their bikes! The link to the film festival section of our website is www.kinodigital.co.uk/flix . Tickets can be booked online or by phone 01580 754321.

KCA 100 Date Change (at 19 March 2011)

The KCA 100 will now be held on 7 August.

After due consideration, the Kent Cycling Association committee have reversed their earlier decision to re-arrange the date of the KCA 100 to avoid clashing with the National 24 hour championship on London South District.

The promoter and course remain unchanged.

Pete Avis 1911-2011

We are sad to announce the death of Pete Avis, San Fairy Ann CC only a few weeks after he celebrated his 100th Birthday on 26th January. Many Kent cyclists will want to attend his funeral on 28th March and his family have given this information. "This to let you know that the funeral service for Pete will take place at Vinters Park Crematorium on Monday 28th March 2011. The hearse will arrive there at 2:40 p.m. for the service timed to start at 2:45 p.m. It is our wish that no flowers are sent but should anyone might wish to make a voluntary donation in his memory it was Pete's wish that the Salvation Army should be the recipient as he always said they were the only ones that showed genuine concern to him and his air force friends during their service in WW2. He himself has remembered them in his will. After the funeral there will be a reception at the Russell Hotel on Boxley Road, Penenden Heath where we have booked a room where family and friends can gather to chat and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee along with sandwiches and cakes. We would be grateful if you could forward this on to his friends as all who wish to attend the funeral and/or reception will be most welcome. It would be most helpful if those wishing to come to Russell Hotel could somehow let us know in order that we get a rough idea how many to cater for. In addition should anyone have any special memories of Pete to express then we would be glad to hear them. We will be meeting with Major ?? of the Salvation Army next Monday (21st) to discuss the service requirements and would like to include something about his lifelong love of his cycling club and the many friends he had there Keith Pearce (son-in-law) Keiths email address is keithpearce_uk@hotmail.com Please pass this info on to anyone who knew Pete & who is not on email

VTTA Kent Group Annual Lunch & Prize Presentation Sun 20.2.11 Smarde

This event which has been losing favour at Ditton due to bar & caterer problems, will now take place at the KCA Lunch venue as above with a 4 month break in between. I am running it with VTTA Committee help in the absence of a Social Sec & I ask all of you who ride as Vets in KCA events or in VTTA events of all ages to show support for the VTTA by booking for what is usually a good 'do'. Its future is already threatened if a Social Sec does not come forward - let them at least see it is a thriving proposition. Our Special Guest is Mick Ballard, Unity CC, one of the best TT riders anywhere in the 70-80s & still involved. Our new VTTA Chairman Mark Vowells is one of the speakers & Paul Mepham is as usual MC. Please phone me on 01580 291737 or email me at patchill@tiscali.co.uk if you would like to attend. Special diets catered for. Bar being run by the George Egerton so good booze available. Pat Hill

VTTA Lunch

I see the full address of the venue did not appear in my last post - it is Smarden Charter Hall, which is on your left, just off High St Smarden as you approach village from Pluckley Pat
