Officials Updated

The list of officials has been updated. Esther Carpenter is the new Secretary, Peter Hayes takes over from John Clegg as Racing Secretary and John Clegg is now the Association's Historian.

Gill Stone

Sadly Gill Stone has passed away. Gill was a feature with Peter at events, especially at the 12 Hour where they were inevitably to be found in the Little Chef at Brenzett. Our condolnces go to Peter and his family.

The funeral service for Gill will be held at St Michael's Church, Wilmington at 11.00 on Monday 14th January 2013. Then afterwards at Rowhill Grange, Hextable. No flowers please - any donations to the EllenorLions Hospices.

Lunch & Prize Presentation 2012

Ann Burden left Smarden village after the KCA Lunch to the sound of Roman candles exploding and rockets cascading in the sky - a fitting tribute to another successful Lunch and Prize Presentation. Ann's patience is unbounded and she coped well with the many minor problems that cropped up. Gordon Sherwood and Alec Mayes turned up early to set up tables and chairs and by the time the revellers arrived the hall was looking festive and welcoming. It was a great relief when Pat turned up, still weak from a very major operation but looking well, were we glad to see her. John Woodburn, arguably the most versatile - certainly the most durable, cyclist we have produced in this country, was the Guest of Honour together with his partner Ann Manners. The grand old cycling tradition of cross-toasting continued and there were enough prizewinners in attendance to make the awards ceremony interesting and just the right duration. Michael Turner, Lewes Wanderers, came along to take possession of the 12 Hour Team Trophy. Paul Mepham kept the excitement at a high level, firstly with the announcement of the Reliability Trial result - quel surprise, S.F.A. won again; then there was the auction of Jamie Staff's old jerseys, a generous donation to Association funds from Jamie. Paul thought he'd bought one only to have it snatched from his grasp by Ray Whibley; never mind Paul, perhaps Vin Denson will let you have one of his. Kent B.A.R. Champion, Andy Miles, stayed behind, together with the De Laune club members, to help Gordon with the clearing up and the tables and chairs were soon packed away into their cupboards. Thanks chaps - it meant that the workers were able to leave nice and early..

The next big occasion for the KCA is the A.G.M. at Penenden Heath on DECEMBER 2nd when major decisions will be made on KCA policy. There will be tea and coffee and lovely biscuits served between 10am and 10.30 which is when the business starts. Do try and have your club represented there, after all it's your Association.

KCA Annual General Meeting

The A.G.M. will be held at the Penenden Heath Social Hall, Penenden Heath, Maidstone ME14 2DH on Sunday, December 2nd at 10.30am PROMPT.

There will be tea/coffee & biscuits beforehand.

All clubs are asked to send two delegates and to send any items for the agenda to Esther Carpenter - - by October 28th.

Time Trials Secretary

At the AGM we could find no volunteer to take on the office of Time Trial Secretary for 2012. This is a very important post within the KCA and if we cannot find a TT Sec it will seriously impact our forthcoming season. Attached to this message is a brief resumé of the Secretary's duties and if anyone is interested in taking the job on can they please get in touch with me.

Mid-August - Confirm from current promoters that they are willing to carry on next year. If anyone decides to step down, seek a replacement. Book HQ’s for next season and send invoices to Treasurer for payment.

Early September - The South East District Council will send you an application pack for next year’s events. Complete and return to them. (An electronic copy of the application form is available).

Mid-September - Start collecting the trophies in from previous year’s winners and arrange engraving. Order medals and plaques and arrange engraving.

October - Produce the full calendar for next year’s events (including supporting events).

November - Liaise with Social Secretary to determine which award winners will be attending the Luncheon then determine in what order they will collect their awards. PS: it is important that you attend the Luncheon.

Complete the Certificates for the BAR qualifiers (an electronic copy of the Certificate is available). These need to be signed by the President.

Submit the Kent Cycling Association advert to the South East District Council. When the invoice arrives, forward to the Treasurer.

One month before each event - Send Promoter’s Notes out to each promoter and let them know the HQ contact details for them to collect the key.

One week before each event - Contact the promoter to confirm everything’s OK and assist in finding marshals (if necessary).

Miscellaneous - Attend Committee Meetings (usually 4 per annum) and AGM and give written reports.

Warwick Dunford's Funeral

Warwick's funeral service will be at Hadlow Church on Wednesday 22nd February at 1pm and afterwards at the Hadlow Manor Hotel.

Warwick Dunford

It is with regret that we have been informed that Warwick passed away last night (4th February). Joyce, his wife and daughter Rosemary were with him.

At this point in time we have no details of funeral arrangements, as soon as they are to hand I will keep you informed.

Annual Lunch And Prize Presentation
