KCA 50 2015

Robert Kennison, Medway Velo, has kindly volunteered to organise the second KCA 50 next year. This event is held in memory of Roy Enfield, a member of the Medway Wheelers winning team in the BBAR competition in 1948 and 1949. Ken Joy and Peter Beardsmore were the other two counters, with Beardsmore winning the individual competition in 1948 and Joy in 1949. Ken Joy was the champion for four successive years.

John Hunt is organising a Memorial Ride for Bill on Sunday 14th September starting at 10.00am from Hampton Pier, Herne Bay. A social ride of 40 miles to Sandwich and back going via Bill’s house and his workshop. It’s being done on behalf of the Veteran Cycle Club with as many as possible coming on Hurlows. I’ve spoken to Shay Guiles but he will probably be racing but may come. Also spoken to Maurice and Esther. He says they will come on their Hurlow tandem. Ernie Abdella is coming, who used to assemble bikes for Bill.

Contact John at or telephone 07765767200.

    KCA 12 HOUR

The 12 Hour course is different this year. More information on the 12 Hour site at

The ESCA 100 has been cancelled as there are long term road works, which will continue beyond the date of the event, on the A22 between Halland and The Shaw roundabouts. It has not been possible to find an acceptable alternative course. In the circumstances, I feel I have no option but to cancel the event, doing so in time for riders to enter the SCCU 100 (details below), the only similar event remaining in Southern England this year.

Whilst unfortunate, this will preserve the reputation we have gained in recent years for running a high quality, friendly event. We look forward to returning in 2015 with a further fine time trial.

The Southern Counties 100 is on Sunday 27 July in West Sussex. Entry costs £8.00 and the Organiser is: Rod Starmer, 23 Tanhouse Road, OXTED, Surrey RH8 9PE. Tel. 01883 713043.

As online entry is not available, you will need to send a paper entry.
