SEAN YATES' KCA COMPETITION 50 RECORD BROKEN AFTER 14 YEARS

Sean set this record in 1996 when riding for Motorola with a 1.47.53. It was obviously set in our Open 50 but I do not have details to hand as to which course he set it on. It was certainly not the latest version of the Q50/11 as this version was new this year. It has taken a superb ride by Kevin Tye of 1.46.42 on Q50/11 to beat Sean's time so Kevin is the course record holder for Q50/11 as well as holding the Individual Men's 50 Record on any course in a KCA event. He was over the moon with his ride at the KCA event & said he had dreamed of breaking Sean's record for years, so we offer him our sincere congratulations. Pat Hill

MORE KCA NEWS ON NEW WEBSITE

We are pleased to announce that Bob Burden has a very interesting site www.spinwheels.co.uk that he hopes will cover almost every cycling event in the County, of any description. This site will have a KCA News page plus will show all our start & result sheets,& in many cases will have photos of many competitors in their Gallery section. See the photos of every team in the recent 3-Up 25,courtesy of Aly Nye. This will be a big help to Tim Carpenter the KCA webmaster so we hope that you will find Bob's site interesting be you social cyclist or racing man or woman.

Bill Hurlow - Master frame builder

We are sad to announce that Bill died yesterday 28 February 2010 aged 88, just a few days short of his 89th birthday. He had long been a part of the Kent cycling scene after a lifetime of being involved with creating some of what one could call the most beautiful of frames & in fact it was Bill who made the name of Condor famous for the lugs he designed & produced on the machines he worked on. Monty Young, Condor' owner acknowledges that fact in the great booklet he produced about his company & its ride to fame. Bill also worked for other outlets & always knew if he had been the artist on a particular frame as Ted Hill once found out years ago when showing Bill his much loved Condor bike at an event. Bill took one look at the lugwork & scoffed that he had not done 'those lugs'- someone else had been responsible. They were still fine work. Bill was a 'character' irascible at times but one that will be missed by his many friends in the trade & Kent cycling world. We have no news re funeral arrangements as yet.

Bill Hurlow's Funeral

Bill's funeral will be on Tuesday 9th March at Margate Crematorium at 12.40pm. We have no infor re flowers or donations but all are welcome. His good friend John Hunt hopes to have Bill's personal collection of his famous lugs on show.
